Lori Kayashima, DVM
Lori Kayashima, DVM grew up in Southern California and graduated from the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. She started working at Valley Animal Hospital (then located in Morgan Hill). At the time, it was a mixed practice and she divided her time between the horses, dogs and cats. She was made equal shareholder with the practice when it was incorporated in 1988. Together, she and her husband, Richard McCormick, VMD opened Orchard Veterinary Hospital in Gilroy in 1989. She continued to split her time between the two practices until 2003 when staffing needs pushed her over to Orchard full time. After discovering a wondrous world of a climate controlled work environment and no constant threat of broken bones from flying hooves, she decided to stay on and devote her career to all things dogs and cats
After hours, she enjoys trail riding at Mt. Madonna, playing life guard for Z out in the duck swamp, throwing dummies for Eugene the Jeep, running interference for the chickens against the bobcat that thinks their yard is part of the KFC drive-thru and fulfilling her role as "cat furniture" to her two cats while she reads.

Richard McCormick, VMD
Dr. Richard McComick grew up in the Gettysburg area of Pennsylvania and developed his love for horses taking care of them at the family farm and showing jumpers. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1976 ( with a Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris degree hence his title of VMD). After working in a mixed practice in Maryland for a year, he headed west and purchased a small animal practice in Mill Valley, CA were he worked for five years. After selling that practice in 1982, he came to Valley Animal Hospital while it was still in Morgan Hill and ultimately, purchase it from Eugene Carroll, DVM in 1984.
After almost four decades serving the equine population of Santa Clara county, Dr. McCormick retired from Valley Equine Hospital in October of 2022. He still can be seen occasionally at Orchard helping Dr. Kayashima with complicated soft tissue or orthopedic surgeries--but he has turned his main focus to obtaining his private pilot license. He still enjoys hitting the trails with Dr. Kayashima with his horse, Lee, taking his dog Eugene (the Jeep) out hunting and taking the occasional hike at Mt. Madonna.

Samantha Mehling, DVM
Dr. Samantha Mehling hails from Fresno and obtained her doctorate from Iowa State University. After enduring the cold icy winters in the Midwest--she went on to complete an internship at Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale CA and a year at Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinic in Salinas. Like Dr. Kayashima, the siren call of regular office hours and air conditioning was too strong to ignore and she joined forces with us in July 2023. Dr. Mehling has adapted seamlessly into Orchard Veterinary Hospital and in short order, has proven to be a valuable asset to the canine and feline population of South County.
During her free time, Dr. Mehling enjoys hiking at Mt. Madonna or hitting the local shoreline with her dog, Rudy.

Tiffany Lau, DVM
Dr. Tiffany Lau is a Cupertino native and completed her undergraduate studies at UC Davis. She went on to Ross University to received her veterinary doctorate in 2014. After graduation, Dr. Lau worked full-time in a small animal clinic in Milpitas. Like for many of us, COVID forced her to make the difficult decision to take a break from veterinary medicine and stay at home to take care of her infant children. Fortunately for us, she transitioned back into clinical practice and joined us part-time in May 2023. At the present time, she is splitting her professional duties between us and her former clinic in Milpitas.
When she in not attending to the local pet population, Dr. Lau continues to chase after her two rambunctious boys, tend to her two geriatric cats and attend church activities with her husband.
